Smith-Schuster's mom says on IG Post that the Steelers didn't want JuJu to sign with the Chiefs

Smith-Schuster’s mom says on IG Post that the Steelers didn’t want JuJu to sign with the Chiefs

Watching JuJu Smith-Schuster sign a one-year contract with the Kansas City Chiefs on Friday was rather heart-wrenching. The latest news from the Smith-Schuster camp, this time coming from his mom on Instagram, makes the signing even more painful.

According to Smith Schuster’s mother, Sammy Schuster, Smith Schuster wanted to stay in Pittsburgh for another year, but the Steelers “didn’t want JuJu,” she wrote on Instagram on Saturday while lamenting the loss of more than “400,000 followers.”

Of course, that’s just one side of the story, so take it as it deserves, but that makes losing Smith Schuster to a foe free agency in the AFC painful.

“There is always one person fighting to keep that love alive… in our case… us [sic] JoJo and I struggled to stay in Pittsburgh because it was never about money that it was about loyalty,” Sammy Schuster wrote on IG. “But I think the Steelers were thinking about their new boyfriend. So they didn’t want JuJu anymore. FYI Pittsburgh!! We fought to stay!!! If you had [sic] He doesn’t want, then why? stay!!!”

OK then.

If absolutely true, the Steelers dropped the ball here, allowing a key captain and contributor to walk offensively for pennies for an offense already laden with All-Pro caliber talent. This may all be somewhat exaggerated on the truth from the Smith-Schuster camp despite making them look a little better after leaving the place they called home for five years. It’s just one side of the story, but it comes straight from Smith Schuster’s mother.

Smith Schuster will earn a base salary of $3 million in 2022 with the Kansas City Chiefs and can earn up to $7.5 million in incentives, making his $10.5 million deal for one year.

We’ll see if anything comes out of the Steelers’ side, but it’s not a great look overall at the moment for the Black and Gold.
