List of Michelin Star Winners in New York City

The three-star Michelin ratings remained unchanged, but a number of New York restaurants fell off their one- and two-star lists when the 2022 Michelin Guide ratings for New York were announced Thursday evening at a gala party at Peak in Hudson Yards in Manhattan. The best restaurants have stayed the same as they were last year: Chef’s Table at Brooklyn Fare, Eleven Madison Park, Le Bernardin, Masa and Per Se. But there have been changes in the other categories.

Al Coro and Saga got two stars. With L’Atelier de Joël Robuchon, Blanca and Ichimura at Uchu closed and removed from the two-star list, there are 13 in this category this year, down from 14. One-star restaurants rose from 49 to 55.

In Manhattan, the new stars are 63 Clinton, Dirt Candy, Frevo, Ica, Gomak Panjum, LaBelle, Le Pavillon, Marie, Nose 17, Uiji Mi, One White Street, Red Paper Clip, Simma, Shion 69 Leonard Street, Torian and Yoshino. The only addition in Brooklyn is Clover Hill.

The one-star list lost 11 restaurants this year. Some, like Kajitsu and Benno, have closed their doors. Others dropped include Peter Luger, Woolsey, Meadowsweet, Laparte and Clock Tower. Carbone’s Clam Bar from Major Food Group and ZZ’s Clam Bar and Ai Fiori and Marea from Altamarea all lost their ratings by one star.

The chief inspector of North America, who remained anonymous, said in an interview that they do not take ownership or chefs into account when hiring stars and that decisions about demotions are taken as seriously as promotions. “It’s an assessment of many meals over time,” he said.

And in the Bib Gourmand category, in recognition of the good value, 18 restaurants were added, for a total of 125, compared to 131 last year. That slight decline, along with a more dramatic drop in the number of restaurants cited for serving a meal under $25 (a total of 23 this year, compared to 42 last year), likely reflects price increases in the restaurant world.

Top Sommelier Award was awarded to Nikita Malhotra of Ko, Kelly Nam of Gomak Panjum took the award for Best Pastry Chef, Charlie Mitchell of Clover Hill was Best Young Chef, and the award for Exceptional Cocktails went to Philip Dieser of Noda. Eric Ripert of Le Bernardin has been awarded the Michelin Guide to the Chef.

Last year’s guide covered New York City and Westchester County, both areas in the title. This year Westchester was joined with Blue Hill at Stone Barnes keeping two stars, and with several Bib Gourmands, but the county was not part of the title; It is now simply 2022 New York Michelin Guide. There are no printed guides.
