Kojima Productions has made it clear that it still has a good relationship with PlayStation, despite announcing an Xbox exclusive.
Hideo Kojima revealed that his studio will be making “a brand new game that no one has ever tried or seen before” at the Xbox Bethesda Game Showcase on June 12, causing some to question the studio’s ties to PlayStation.
“After announcing our partnership with Microsoft using cloud technology, many people asked us about our collaboration [Sony Interactive Entertainment]Kojima Productions Twitter page (below) has been posted. Please be assured that we continue to have a very good partnership with PlayStation as well. “

The developer was previously synonymous with the Sony side due to its only franchise, Death Stranding, being a PlayStation exclusive – even featuring on the PlayStation Studios website. Kojima himself has always been associated with PlayStation, before creating his studio.
The Xbox announcement led to a protest by some Kojima fans, who felt the legendary developer should not stray from his relationship with PlayStation. Some have filed petitions to ask Kojima Productions not to work on the Xbox game.
But Kojima Productions is an independent studio, and He said in another tweetHe will explore different possibilities with games, movies and music through platforms that evolve with time and technology. Kojima himself said of the announcement that he is incorporating “the latest technology” from Microsoft, particularly cloud broadcasting, and “changing industry trends” into this new venture.
While the project is still in its early stages, the famous developer – most famous for creating the Metal Gear Solid franchise – has always wanted to make it. “I’ve waited so long for the day I can finally start creating it,” he said.
That doesn’t mean Death Stranding is over, of course, its lead actor, The Walking Dead’s Norman Reedus recently leaked that a sequel to the 2019 stealth game is in development. In our 6/10 review of the first game, IGN said: “Death Stranding offers a wonderful world of supernatural sci-fi, but its gameplay struggles to support its weight.”
Kojima’s other supposed game, a horror title called Overdose, appears to have leaked earlier this week, but it hasn’t officially come out yet.
