Knicks guard Derek Rose will be out again before he returns.
According to a source, Rose visited an ankle specialist after Thursday’s practice and further damage was found to his right ankle.
On the About to come back either Friday or Sunday After undergoing ankle surgery to remove a bony spur in December, Rose will now undergo what Nicks called a “minor procedure” on his ankle with a timetable yet to be determined.
There are only 23 games left, and he will likely be out until next season after the Knicks signed him a three-year, $43 million contract last August.
Rose will miss his 31st game in a row on Friday against Miami after coach Tom Tebodeau said on Thursday it was “likely” he would be back.
The demise of the rose is another sign that the Leon Rose/William Wesley era has taken a very bad turn for the worse.
The question arises as to whether point guard Kemba Walker is ready to return to the fold. Walker closed him for the season to gain better health but is believed to have been told he was no longer in rotation once Rose returned. A person familiar with the situation said Walker doubted he would change his mind.
Rose was seen as potential savior To this corrupt season to raise the second unit and close matches with his veteran knowledge.
Otherwise, the Knicks might kick in and start rookie Miles McBride at the guard post. Alec Burks is expected to start in PG on Friday.
On Thursday, Julius Randle and Obi Tobin spoke glowingly about Rose’s comeback and now they’re back to square one in a devastating blow.
“He looked good (in practice),” Randell said Thursday. “We have obviously missed him a lot, he is a great player, he brings so much to this team that goes unnoticed. It would be great to have him back. He will help us a lot going forward.”
Toppin, whose game has been enhanced by a real PG, added, “D-Rose is amazing, he talks a lot, he energizes everyone. He makes sure everyone is doing the right thing. He’s gone for a minute. Getting him back is amazing. When we play together he controls the game and finds the guy.” open.
